Agile Radiant Colour Viewing Cabinets

Agile Radiant™ provide ideal conditions for colour matching - with multiple light sources

For colour selection, colour matching and for QC applications, the Agile Radiant™ Colour Viewing Cabinets provide ideal viewing conditions for visual colour assessment. They screen out unwanted external lighting, allow you to get close to the work and to view under the high light intensities needed, to switch sources to see metameric effects, and provide consistent lighting conditions - day and night.

An economical unit for most applications

This model is suitable for colour selection, colour matching and QC checking. It is principally intended for graphic arts applications, but it is also suitable for use with fabrics, home furnishings, paints, plastics, cosmetics, etc. - in fact any application where accurate colour is important.

The enclosed viewing area shields out unwanted external light, while the neutral grey panels provide the ideal background for assessing colour.

Fitted with electronic ballasts for cool running and instant starting, Model CVC3-2E has three light sources:

Artificial Daylight D65 - This 6,500K fluorescent daylight source is the accepted European and international standard for critical colour matching. It is also known as Northlight 55.

Store Light TL84 - Nominally 4,100K, this type of tube is used in many modern store applications, because of the light efficiency. Appearance under this lighting is therefore very important in clothing, home furnishing, packaging and labeling applications. Being made up from red, green and blue phosphors, the spectral output is very spiky, and colours viewed under TL84 can exhibit significant metameric effects - so it is an important check.

Tungsten Home Light - Simulates normal home lighting conditions at an approximate colour temperature of 2.700K. The higher red content of the light can also result in metameric effects.

For some applications, it is also important to detect the presence of UV fluorescent materials or to have an alternative 5,000K Artificial Daylight source. See Model CVC5-2E.

Includes UV Black Light to detect fluorescent materials

This model is suitable for a wide variety of colour selection, colour matching and QC checking applications. These include graphic arts, security printing, fabrics, home furnishings, paper testing, paints, plastics, cosmetics, etc.

The enclosed viewing area shields out unwanted external light, while the neutral grey panels provide the ideal background for assessing colour. Agile Radiant Colour Viewing Cabinet, Model CVC5-2E is fitted with electronic ballasts for the fluorescent tubes, ensuring cool running and instant starting.

The Controlled Light 5, Model CVC5-2E is fitted with five light sources:

Artificial Daylight D65 - This 6,500K fluorescent daylight source is the accepted European and international standard for critical colour matching. It is also known as Northlight 55.

Artificial Daylight D50 - An alternative standard to D65, this 5,000K fluorescent daylight source is used for some graphic arts applications, especially when viewing a four colour process printed sample for comparison with a colour transparency, back illuminated with a 5,000k light source for colour correction.

UV Black Light - This source allows the presence of UV fluorescent materials to be detected.  Applications include checking papers which include a fluorescent whitener, or in security printing where UV fluorescent inks may be used.

The Controlled Light 5,  Model CVC5-2E is a sophisticated viewing cabinet with many uses.

Notes on Metamerism: Two colours which appear to match in a particular light, may no longer match when the lighting conditions are changed. This is known as a metameric effect. So for colour matching, colour selection or QC applications, it is most important that more than one light source is used. The Agile Radiant Colour Viewing Cabinets therefore provide a number of different light sources.

Visual observation using the Agile Radiant Colour Viewing Cabinets will generally provide the most critical means of assessing a colour match & metameric effects, and be the lowest cost solution. However, many applications will also now require a documented measured colour for QC records, pass/fail analysis etc. This is now possible using modern instruments, such as the Ihara S900 Portable Spectrophotometer we supply. Not only is this able to measure colour in standard coordinate systems, but is also to quantify metameric effects.
